LOW VISION ASSESSMENT AND OPTICAL DEVICE FITTING
The vast majority of patients with low vision due to macular degeneration or other eye diseases can be helped to function with the use of an optical device. Even if you experience difficulty reading small print with your bi-focal lenses, you may benefit by using a low vision aid.
Low vision aids are special lens systems designed to magnify or illuminate images to allow some increase in visual acuity. Our low vision specialists can counsel patients on how better to deal with their reduced vision in general and enjoy a better quality of life while using the various products available. They can include optical aids such as magnifiers, telescopes and high powered spectacle or electronic devices.
The Ministry of Health offers subsidies under the Assisted Devices Program to those patients who meet the visual criteria to purchase and use low vision aids.
